Buytok Terms of Service

These Terms outline your legal rights and responsibilities when discovering products on video feeds, negotiating prices with retailers, and transacting with escrow security on Buytok.

1. The Buytok Platform Ecosystem

Buytok is a social commerce platform operating in Nigeria. On Buytok:

  • Feeds & Video Reels: Products are discovered primarily through interactive short-form video reels and categorized feeds where retailers showcase physical goods in action.
  • Item Categories: Customers can scroll, filter, and explore verified merchandise across fashion, gadgets, home goods, beauty, automotive, and more.
  • Retailer Postings & Multi-Tier Pricing: Verified retailers may upload product catalogs with multiple pricing structures, including Single Retail, Wholesale/Bulk, Promotional Discounts, and Negotiable Price Bands.
  • Price Negotiation: Customers can submit real-time counter-offers and negotiate prices directly with sellers inside our secure messaging interface.
  • 100% Escrow Protection: All customer payments are held in an isolated escrow vault. Money is released to the retailer only after the product arrives and is inspected and approved by the buyer.

2. Escrow Payment & Fund Holding Agreement

When a customer purchases an item on Buytok, the transaction amount is transferred into a regulated escrow account managed by licensed payment partners (including CBN-licensed switches and merchant partners).

Fund Security During Transit

The seller does not receive payment while goods are in transit. Funds remain strictly frozen in escrow until confirmed arrival.

48-Hour Inspection Period

Upon package receipt, buyers have 48 hours to inspect the item. If the item does not match the video reel or is defective, the customer may raise an immediate dispute.

If no dispute is lodged and no extension is requested within 48 hours following verified delivery, escrow funds are automatically disbursed to the seller’s settlement balance.

3. Real-Time Price Negotiation & Counter-Offers

Buytok enables interactive price negotiation. The following rules govern counteroffers:

  • A negotiated offer accepted by a seller creates a provisional binding invoice valid for 24 hours.
  • Customers must complete escrow checkout within 24 hours to secure the negotiated price; otherwise, the listing returns to default retail pricing.
  • Off-platform payment requests (e.g. asking for direct WhatsApp bank transfers to avoid escrow) are strictly prohibited and result in permanent account suspension.

4. Retailer & Creator Obligations

Retailers and creators selling on Buytok agree to the following standards:

  • Video Authenticity: Video reels must depict the genuine, physical inventory being offered. Misleading stock videos, deepfakes, or bait-and-switch demonstrations violate our charter.
  • Dispatch Timeframes: In-stock orders must be dispatched within 48 hours of escrow confirmation with valid tracking or waybill details.
  • Prohibited Items: Counterfeit goods, weapons, illegal pharmaceuticals, stolen devices, and unauthorized digital products are strictly prohibited.

5. Dispute Resolution & Arbitration

In the event of non-delivery, damaged goods, or misrepresentation:

  • The customer can file a complaint via our in-app resolution desk or online at /contact#complaints.
  • Buytok escrow mediators review photographic/video evidence alongside chat negotiation logs within 24 business hours.
  • If verified, 100% of escrow funds are refunded to the buyer's original payment method or wallet.
  • Legal disputes shall be governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, with primary venue in Kaduna State.
